Leadership Development
|
 |
To continually strengthen the role of instructional leader, DoDEA administrators participate in several leadership experiences and professional development conferences which are held each year at the Area and District level. The ever-changing role and demands of school administrators necessitate a strong leadership development process which is focused on student achievement.
Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) administrators concentrate their training on standards-based curriculum and instruction, national education trends, differentiation of instruction at all levels, and explicit use of data to inform instruction and increase student learning. A wide variety of data is used when making decisions that affect teacher-student engagement, facilities, budget, communications, and in building community partnerships.
The professional development and progress of school administrators is closely aligned with DoDEA initiatives, the Community Strategic Plan 2006-2011, and the Interstate Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) Standards of School Leaders. DoDEA administrators participate in training to assist them in recognizing effective practices currently in place, continually self-assess, set goals and monitor the progress of those goals, and to develop proficiencies in analyzing data. The purpose of all training centers on the enhancement of student achievement.
DoDEA Leadership development priorities include a long-term mentoring program for new assistant principals, principals, assistant superintendents, and superintendents. |
In response to the DoDEA Community Strategic Plan Goal 3, Outcome B “Continuous Professional Development and Training” the mentoring activities will strengthen instructional leadership skills, create collaborative learning environments, and review essential managerial tasks.
The multiple professional growth opportunities for all educational leaders ensure that all facets of instructional leadership will be addressed throughout each school year. |

Leadership Growth for All Educators:
DoDEA educators and specialists are afforded numerous opportunities and positions to develop their leadership capacity. These positions include (but are not limited to) school improvement chairs, committee chairs, School Advisory Council, Department and Curriculum Leaders, Grade Level chairs, team leaders, and Curriculum Implementation Facilitators. |
DoDEA uses the Educator Career Program (ECP) to promote educators as school administrators. It is important that each applicant have a strong background in educational excellence that is demonstrated through practical applications and experiences, and a strong instructional knowledge base.
Administrator’s Conference
Each year Principals and Assistant Principals will gather from all over DoDEA Pacific to participate in the Pacific Administrators Conference. The conference goal is to strengthen leadership capacities to lead and sustain continuous school and program improvement resulting in enhanced student achievement. Educational leaders from DoDEA headquarters and the Pacific Area Office guide participants as they receive practical knowledge and application techniques in their roles as instructional leaders. |
